• A copper axe. This is the only one of its kind from a securely dated Chalcolithic context in Cyprus.![]()

The smaller objects were likely made by cold hammering and may have been produced in specialist workshops for exchange across communities.![]()

The axe, around 75 mm long and weighing 119 g, is especially remarkable. It flares at the end, with a flat, trapezoidal body tapering toward a rectangular butt. This tool is larger and heavier than any other known Chalcolithic copper artefact from Cyprus, making it a truly unique find. 🪓![]()

Palloures Figurines! ✨![]()

Here you see a zoomorphic figurine. This unusual Chalcolithic picrolite figurine represents a four-legged animal. A biconical perforation is drilled obliquely between the front and back of the figure, right where the head would have been. While the wear suggests it may have been suspended, it's also possible that a now-lost head was once attached here.![]()

Another perforation runs through the belly of the animal. It's wider and highly polished on the inside, possibly indicating that it once held a movable part.![]()

Since 2015, archaeologists have been excavating a site in Chlorakas, in the Paphos district. The project focuses on uncovering a Chalcolithic (Copper Age; ca 3000 BCE) village, its buildings and associated artefacts and burials. The excavation has revealed a wealth of insights into Chalcolithic Cyprus. ![]()
